The Cost of Driving Around Kansas
Apr 5th, 2007 by Bobosan
Sometime’s it seems like all I do is drive around Kansas. Danyale was down here last weekend, and I took her back Monday morning for class. But, she had a spring concert tuesday, so I ended up driving to Highland for that on Tuesday. So, in a short number of days, I ended up driving 500 miles between Monday and Tuesday. That put’s quite a pinch on me, because of both the cost of gas, and the time it takes to go back-and-forth, and then back-and-forth-again.
The cost of gas is roughly $2.60 a gallon up here right now. So it costs $26 to fill up my car, and I can go about 300 miles on a single tank. So, I spent roughly $60 on gas, $30 on food at Applebee’s after the concert, and at least $15 in cigarettees and other misc. expenses. Expenses like these add up fast.
During the week when driving, I put in $10 per day, and that lasts me while I’m at work and driving to and from there also. I have to take at least 10 runs (or 9 right now, since I’m getting $1.10 per run) to break even just on gas. Any extra runs over the required ten would technically go towards preventative maintainence on my car, but covers food and out-of-pocket expenses.
It’s a good thing that during the week, I live as cheaply and poorly as I can. Sometimes I eat at work, other times I’ll stop at Taco Bell and partake in the “2 Beef & Potato Burrito’s for $2.73″. I used to live off the damn burrittos at one time, and they’re quite tasty for the cost.
I’ll go into some more in-depth break down of financial costs, and how your average pizza delivery-thing can stretch his money, and still be rather content.
