Deep Inside My Thoughts

More Equal Than Others

Some of us are more eqaul than others. Some places are more equal too. I suppose it’s human nature to give higher standing to some place, while thinking less about another. Take for example, East Columbus. This side of Columbus is the poor part. The houses are in disrepair, the people are close to poverty level, and I’m sure there’s more crime there than say a richer part of the city. So it makes sense that the Police would be harder on those in this neighborhood than others. They’d be more apt to say, pull someone over here than in a richer part. Part of this is probably due to the drug and crime problem, but part of it surely is because of the views towards the peoplpe who live here.

Let’s face it, humanity is an elitest at it’s core. People think of themselves as better than some. Even if you’re a working class family, you think yourself better than a poor family. Upper-middle class think themselves better than working, and so on. If you were a middle-class cop that was patroling a poverty stricken neighborhood, you would probably be more apt to take action against the ‘crimes’ you seen there.

Drugs are a major problem in this town. We’ve been refered as to being part of the “Meth Triangle”, a section of 3 counties were Meth is highly prevalent. But how do you combat this meth problem? Sure, some tips must trickle in, but I’m sure car stops play a major part in the tactics to wage war on drugs. Afterall, these people are working class, and from my experiences delivering to them, quite a few are hooked on the bottle or the needle. I’m sure quite a few people indeed do drive drunk, high, or are traveling with precursers. What are the police to do?

I was pulled over in East Columbus a few days ago, at 1am. I might have been speeding, but it wasn’t too excessive given the time, scarcity of traffic, and situation. But I was guilty of something: I was guility of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I’m sure the Sheriff who pulled me over hoped I was drunk or high. I’m sure he hoped he would get an arrest out of it. Given the place, I could have been. It’s the streotype that’s presented to us. But, I wasn’t anything. I was talking on my cell phone, heading home from a drive. I was completely sober.

Any other place, I might not have gotten pulled over. I’ve passed cops going 15 miles per hour over before at latenight, but not a thing happened. What’s the difference? I was in a ‘good’ part of town. I was somewhere where we don’t think of having a major drug problem. Car’s in that place aren’t sterotypical drunk drivers that carry anhydrous amonia to make meth with. But it’s more likely that some of the cars in East Columbus are. That’s why I think I got pulled over, and insted of being let off, was ticketed and fined, in fact the added 1 mph over cost me an additional $60 fine. But it hasn’t cost me anything yet, as I’m intending to fight it. My day will come…soon.

It makes a lot more sense when you explain it that way, lol.
