Deep Inside My Thoughts

The Joy of Motoring

It’s been a damn long time since I’ve gone on a weekend long vacation by myself. I’m in North Carolina right now. I came here for a wedding, but that was only part of the reason to come. The major reason was just to get out of town for a few, go on a drive in the mountains, and just relax. For me, a six hour drive in the car is very relaxing, and gives me time to reflect on some things that are on my mind.

The drive itself was amazing. I left my house 30 minutes later than I scheduled, and I wanted to try to make up the time on the way. I was starving, so I stopped in Louisville to grab some quick food from McDonalds. Beyond that, it was perfect driving weather. The skies were cloudy, but the sun was shining, and my music was playing loud in my ears. Six hours seemed to go by very quickly, and before I knew it, I had crossed the North Carolina state line.

There’s where the fun began. You see, I-40 right after you enter the state is very curvy. The posted speed limit is something like 55mph. Of course, I was going 70, taking turns at their apex, accelerating through the turns, and just having a blast. This place is beautiful too! I saw a handful of waterfalls cascading down the steep sides of the mountains, and I thought it was the coolest thing. It brought up memories of living back in Bloomington, and going to see all the waterfalls in Cascade’s Park there. It was nice.

Tomorrow will be a busy day. I have a wedding at 3pm, and a huge dinner sometime afterwords. I think sleep is calling me. I think I will have time tomorrow to post some pictures from Gena’s wedding, and a quick blog post before dinner. God, I’m so excited..
